The fans of P90X were shocked to hear that in the summer of 2010, Tony Horton and his producers were taking the first steps to develop a sequel that would eventually be known as P90X2. After more than 12 months in the making P90X2 has embarked on its final stage of development, with an ETA of the fall of 2011.
P90X2 has been a tightly held secret with very little in the way of leaks or spoilers until now. Fans who have been wondering how the program will differ from the original and just how the mantra of Muscle Confusion (that so well defined its predecessor )would continue, are beginning to see the revelation. With the passing of the annual Beachbody coach summit, several key pieces of information about P90X2 have surfaced starting with a sneak peak P90X2 Video.

What We Know So Far…
The video referenced above, albeit it a very well done pump you up trailer, doesn’t really deliver much in way of cold hard P90X2 facts. What we do know so far is that unlike its predecessor, P90X2 is going to be broken into 3 different workout phases named Foundation, Strength, and Performance. The reason for this phase based approach is due to the high level of exercises the program will incorporate.

P90X2 begins by establishing a foundation phase of exercises aimed at improving ones foundation and reducing instability. The second phase called “Strength” allows the exerciser to utilize their increased stability and build strength and power that then translates into an overall increase of “Performance” which is the 3rd and final phase.

The idea that “less is more” could not be any more clearly seen then when comparing P90X to its sequel P90X2. With P90X, a rigorous 6-day a week workout schedule was recommended in order to see the promised results within the 90 day timetable the program was built around. With P90X2 the schedule has been reduced to 5 days a week only. This is because the intensity level of P90X2 has been increased to a point where your body will need a full 2 days to recover.

According to Carl Daikeler CEO of Beachbody, P90X2 will be offered on a preorder basis starting August 31st, 2011. Although there is no set date for the official release of this program, we can pretty much assume it to be late September to early October of this year. In the meantime, all we can do is look forward to the much anticipated follow up to the world’s best selling in home workout program P90X.
