And exercise is good for us in a number of other ways, too. However, exercising takes time and effort. Those of us who have serious weight loss goals, or who are even trying to maintain a healthy weight, can’t exactly afford to exercise all day long in order to keep the metabolism up. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was something we could do to kick our metabolisms into high gear, without having to sweat it out at the gym? Fortunately, there is. And believe it or not, eating is the solution. Yes, eating Did you know there are things you can eat that actually work for your metabolism, rather than against it? Here are five amazing foods to boost your metabolism:

Hot peppers. Believe it or not, hot peppers can go a long way in boosting your body’s metabolism. That is because they contain a chemical called capsaicin, which has been found to trigger the release of your body’s stress hormones, thereby raising your metabolism.

Grapefruit. The grapefruit diet, which sounds ridiculous to some, is actually based on some realities about grapefruit. There is a chemical in grapefruit that is shown to reduce insulin (sugar) levels, which promotes weight loss, and increase your metabolism. Of course, it is not recommended that you eat grapefruit and only grapefruit . . . but it definitely makes a smart addition to a well-balanced diet.

Broccoli. Bet you when your parents told you to eat your greens, they didn’t exactly have weight loss in mind. Broccoli is high in calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C, folate and fiber – all things that help your body burn calories and lose weight.

Lean meat. Protein is a proven metabolism booster. Not only that, protein is the building block for muscle, and muscle is responsible for burning fat. Just remember to keep the “lean” in lean meat. Otherwise, you could be working against your body’s fat-burning process by just taking in more fat. Try white-meat turkey and chicken, or fish.

Oatmeal. This is a breakfast staple for body builders and fitness fanatics, and for good reason. Oatmeal is virtually fat-free, and is full of the good kind of carbohydrates. This gets your body revved up for calorie burning, and fills your tummy up so that you are not craving other, less advantageous foods.

As you can see, eating really can contribute to your weight loss goals. You just have to eat the right things. These foods are great for your metabolism, and chances are, most are already a part of your regular diet.

A combination of both will prove most effective.

•	Drink lots of water to help your body with the fat burning process. Drinking more water will help your metabolism. It will also move out the toxins in your body from working out. Try to get several glasses of water per day. If you are not used to drinking a lot of water it will take you a while to get used to drinking this much water.

•	Your diet also should facilitate metabolism. Eat more fruits with fiber. Increasing your fiber will help move food through your body and keep your intestines cleaner.

• Green tea has also been shown to be a metabolism booster. Get some green tea in to help with your digestion and fat burning.

•	Spice up your meals. Pepper or hot peppers help to increase your metabolism. Spices like cinnamon also help with your metabolism.

•	Work out before breakfast each morning. Working out on an empty stomach helps burn fat. Your system has to burn fat because it has been 8 or so hours since you had anything to eat. Make sure you stay hydrated.

Fact: Cardiovascular training, even a small amount, is significant for your vitality and overall health.
It may be very tiring doing bodybuilding, but it is extremely important not only to have a great body but in addition for you to have a long life! Completing a minimum of ten minutes of cardiovascular training 3 to 4 times a week will enhance your metabolism. And even though this is something that we don’t really like doing, we can incorporate cardio through outdoor activities!

1.	Go for a Plunge.
A way to enhance your cardio system is by doing 20 minute laps. When doing laps you should remember the following:
•	Work to increase your heart rate on your lap training.
•	Ensure that you are safeguarded by making use of sun screen protection. You also have to carry on taking multivitamins to maintain your immune system in good shape.
•	Swim in a clean, chlorinated pool instead of swimming in an motionless body of water. Bear in mind, we are not sure if that body of water is clean.

2.	Work on your Tan.
Doing your work out, very little clothes on is kind of awkward. But if you don’t in fact mind that, then working on your tan will not be tough while you are doing your cardiovascular training. So, get that bronze you’ve been seeking to find while losing weight! Make sure you wear some sunscreen though, you don’t want to get burned.

3.	Do it with your Family.
Have a family day!
Bring your children, if you have any, to an empty field and run together with them for about 20-25 minutes. They will definitely enjoy it. This will give your family quality time together while doing your cardiovascular training. Keep your heart rate at the desired level for 20 minutes to increase your metabolism.

4.	Visit New places
Notice how time flies?
Visit new places and do your training there. You can visit a new track field, gym or anywhere you want to go. The opportunity of you not noticing the time passing by because of the new environment is really great!

5.	Bring a friend with you.
When doing your cardiovascular training, it is great to have somebody to talk with to pass the time. You can talk about anything under the sun and you will not notice how the hours fly by.

Definition of metabolism:

Metabolism is the number of calories that you burn at any given moment. Your metabolism burns more calories while you are active then when you are at rest.

Things you can do to raise your metabolism:

1. Workout with weights

By lifting weights you build more muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat. Therefore, working out with weights will speed up your metabolism.

GG Scandinavian Bran Crispbread
2.Eat more often

By eating more often you will be spreading your calories between 5 to 6 small meals a day. These calories will be used for energy instead of being stored as fat. The combination of smaller, more frequent meals allows your body to get nutrients when it needs them. When you give the body small doses of energy throughout the day it will use this energy instead of your muscle tissue. When you wait a long time between meals your metabolism slows down because it thinks that you are starving yourself. By eating frequent meals you will stabilize your blood sugar levels and help to avoid dips in energy, which cause you to head for the nearest vending machine.

3.Cardio work

Cardio work is a good way to burn calories, and speed up your metabolism. You should be training in your target heartrate. Your target heartrate is calculated as follows: 220 minus your age, multiplied by 0.6 = lower limit 220 minus your age, multiplied by 0.8 = upper limit By staying within these limits you will be utilizing the most fat while sparing muscle.

4.Stimulants

There are many stimulants out there that contain ma-haung, caffeine and aspirin. These three ingredients together make a very potent stimulant. Stimulants will help you to boost your metabolism, but they will only work for a short time because your body will adapt to them.

Here is a way to estimate your “Basal Metabolic Rate”

Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is a measure of how fast your metabolism is running. It’s the number of calories you burn to keep your heart beating, to keep you breathing, to keep your muscles alive, etc. It’s the number of calories your body needs while at rest.

Women: 661 + (4.38 x weight in pounds) + (4.33 x height in inches) – (4.7 x age) = BMR

Men: 667 + (6.24 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) – (6.9 x age) = BMR

To estimate the TOTAL number of calories your body needs per day, multiply your BMR by the appropriate number below.

* 0.9 if you are sedentary and have yo-yo or crash dieted frequently during the past two years
* 1.2 if you are sedentary
* 1.3 if you are moderately active (exercise 3 days per week or equivalent)
* 1.7 if you are very active
* 1.9 if you are extremely active

This is only a way to estimate caloric expenditure.
